d311bc8bf8 PowerPC64, Don't copy weak symbol dyn_relocs to weakdef.
At the cost of an extra field in the symbol table hash entries, this
simplification to the relocate_section dynamic reloc test should help
maintainability.

	* elf64-ppc.c (struct ppc_link_hash_entry): Add weakref.
	(ppc64_elf_copy_indirect_symbol): Set weakref. Don't merge
	dyn_relocs for weakdefs.
	(alias_readonly_dynrelocs): New function.
	(ppc64_elf_adjust_dynamic_symbol): Use alias_readonly_dynrelocs.
	(ppc64_elf_relocate_section): Simplify condition under which
	dyn_relocs are emitted.

8a2058b5e3 PR 20472, PowerPC64 ifunc confusion
This patch fixes quite a lot of confusion in allocate_dynrelocs over
ifuncs. Function descriptors make ELFv1 quite different to ELFv2.

	PR 20472
	* elf64-ppc.c (ppc64_elf_before_check_relocs): Tweak abiversion test.
	(readonly_dynrelocs): Comment fix.
	(global_entry_stub): New function.
	(ppc64_elf_adjust_dynamic_symbol): Tweak abiversion test. Match
ELFv2 code deciding on dynamic relocs vs. global entry stubs to
that in size_global_entry_stubs, handling ifunc too. Delete dead
	weak sym code.
(allocate_dynrelocs): Ensure dyn_relocs field is cleared when no
dyn_relocs are needed. Correct handling of ifunc dyn_relocs.
Tidy ELIMINATE_COPY_RELOCS code, only setting dynindx for
undefweak syms. Expand and correct comments.
	(size_global_entry_stubs): Ensure symbol is defined.
	(ppc64_elf_relocate_section): Match condition under which
dyn_relocs are emitted to that in allocate_dynrelocs.

d93d1c80b3 PowerPC64 ELFv1 undefined weak functions
Undefined weak functions, like __gmon_start__, were not being made
dynamic or emitting plt call code. While the behaviour of undefined
weak symbols is not defined in the ELF standard, the intention on
powerpc64 was to make it possible to link without a definition of such
symbols and at run time behave the same as if a definition was found
at link time in a shared library.

	* elf64-ppc.c (ppc64_elf_adjust_dynamic_symbol): Don't exit with
non_got_ref true in any case where we could have generated dynbss
copies but decide not to do so.

14b57c7c6a PowerPC VLE
VLE is an encoding, not a particular processor architecture, so it
isn't really proper to select insns based on PPC_OPCODE_VLE. For
example
{"evaddw", VX (4, 512), VX_MASK, PPCSPE|PPCVLE, PPCNONE, {RS, RA, RB}},
{"vaddubs", VX (4, 512), VX_MASK, PPCVEC|PPCVLE, PPCNONE, {VD, VA, VB}},
shows two insns that have the same encoding, both available with VLE.
Enabling both with VLE means we can't disassemble the second variant
even if -Maltivec is given rather than -Mspe. Also, we don't check
user assembly against the processor type as well as we could.

Another problem is that when using the VLE encoding, insns from the
main ppc opcode table are not available, except those using opcode 4
and 31. Correcting this revealed two errors in the ld testsuite,
use of "nop" and "rfmci" when -mvle.

This patch fixes those problems in the opcode table, and removes
PPCNONE. I find a plain 0 distracts less from other values.

In addition, I've implemented code to recognize some machine values
from the apuinfo note present in ppc32 objects. It's not a complete
disambiguation since we're lacking info to detect newer chips, but
what we have should help with disassembly.

1a72702bb3 Return void from linker callbacks
The ldmain.c implementation of these linker callback functions always
return true, so any code handling a false return is dead. What's
more, some of the bfd backends abort if ever a false return is seen,
and there seems to be some confusion in gdb's compile-object-load.c.
The return value was never meant to be "oh yes, a multiple_definition
error occurred", but rather "out of memory or other catastrophic
failure".

This patch removes the status return on the callbacks that always
return true. I kept the return status for "notice" because that one
does happen to need to return "out of memory".

0e1862bb40 Add output_type to bfd_link_info
The "shared" field in bfd_link_info is set for both DSO and and PIE.
There are separate fields for executable and relocatable outputs. This
patch adds an "output_type" field:

enum output_type

  type_unknown = 0,
  type_executable,
  type_dll,
  type_relocatable
};

and a "pic" field to bfd_link_info to replace shared, executable and

for output type and the "pic" field check if output is PIC. Macros,

13a2df29c9 Set EI_OSABI to ELFOSABI_GNU for local IFUNC symbols
Since the backend elf_add_symbol_hook isn't called on local symbols,
the EI_OSABI field isn't to ELFOSABI_GNU where are local IFUNC symbols.
This patch changes the x86 backends to set has_gnu_symbols if there are

bb854a36d1 Fix ppc64 ELFv1 assertion failure
Bogus assembly can hit an assertion in opd_entry_value when the symbol

bd4d2eaad0 PowerPC64 thread-safe stubs not needed for iplt
I was looking at a current glibc using objdump today and saw an odd
plt call stub.

0000000000044d80 <00000033.plt_call.__strchrnul>:
   44d80: f8 41 00 28 std r2,40(r1)
   44d84: e9 82 8c f8 ld r12,-29448(r2)
   44d88: 7d 89 03 a6 mtctr r12
   44d8c: e8 42 8d 00 ld r2,-29440(r2)
   44d90: 28 22 00 00 cmpldi r2,0
   44d94: 4c e2 04 20 bnectr+
   44d98: 48 13 84 f0 b 17d288 <realloc@plt>

What? It doesn't branch to __strchrnul@plt on finding a zero r2?

Turns out this isn't a real problem since the stub is for loading an
ifunc, so will not be lazily resolved and thus r2 will never be zero.
Of course, that means the thread-safety check is unnecessary.

I also tweak the special __tls_get_addr_opt call stub here, to
restore r2 immediately after the call. Not doing that might affect
eh_frame unwinding.

2ec55de302 Properly place the NULL STT_FILE symbol revistited
I was having a little closer look at what is going on here and noticed
that HJ unconditionally emits a NULL STT_FILE symbol before emitting
forced local symbols. That means we really don't need a second pass
over forced local symbols. The only reason for two passes is when
some forced local symbol can be emitted before the NULL STT_FILE. So
I set about removing the second pass, updating the testsuite all over
again. It's also unnecessary to emit the NULL STT_FILE when no
previous file symbol has been emitted.

b86ac8e3a5 Correct PowerPC64 local-dynamic TLS linker optimization
The linker hardcoded r3 into a local-dynamic to local-exec TLS
optimization sequence. This is normally the case since r3 is required
as a parameter to (the optimized out) __tls_get_addr call. However,
it is possible for a compiler, LLVM in this case, to set up the
parameter value in another register then copy it to r3 before the
call.

When fixing this problem, I noticed that ppc32 had another bug when
optimizing away one of the TLS insns to a nop.

The patch also tidies a mask used by global-dynamic to initial-exec
TLS optimization, to just select the fields needed. Leaving the
offset in the instruction wasn't a bug since it will be overwritten
anyway.
